February 17, 2012. - Deccan Charger’s JP Duminy top scored a vital innings of 41 under pressure against New Zealand in the 1st T20, played at Westpac Stadium in Wellington, Left Handed middle order batsman Duminy steadied the innings with a crucial 50 run partnership with Ontong on a slow pitch which assisted spin bowlers, helping South Africa reach a respectable total of 141. His clinical innings included 3 hits to the fence, at a strike rate of 110 majorly accumulating most of his runs in ones and twos. Also Duminy delivered the goods with the ball by claiming the wicket of hard hitting batsman Brendon McCullum with his slow off break.
In the bowling department Deccan Charger’s Medium fast bowler Juan Theron maintained a disciplined line and length attack by putting a halt on the New Zealand run scoring. Theron claimed the wicket of opening batsman Rob Nicol with the first ball of his spell, ending a crucial partnership. The good performances from the Chargers couldn't be enough to secure win for SA as it rode on Guptil's performance to win 1st T20I with 4 balls to spare.
