Message from COO

My dear Chargers and Chargers Fans,“We are not defeated when we lose: we are defeated when we quit.”
Let me once again state that it has been terribly unfortunate that disappointments and failures have been haunting us match after match this IPL season. And now the so called “Sting Operation” by a TV Channel has not been pleasant at all. But we are a TEAM; strong, positive, progressive and resilient. Deccan Chargers will definitely not succumb under any such pressure.
I assure all of you, we will bounce back from these adversities. Let’s not dwell on any kind of excuses. As sportspersons make integrity, hard work, sportsmanship and a strong will to win your allies and SUCCESS is surely yours for LIFE!
I ask you to concentrate on the last two games we play on our home ground on May 18th & 20th for this IPL season. Playing for pride is our objective. Let’s CHARGE into the game with full optimism and a strong zeal to WIN.
Push yourselves again and again to reach towards your GOALS. GO CHARGE my dear CHARGERS!!!
A special thanks to Chargers fans from across the GLOBE...You are the force that keeps us going in our low times and you are the real CHAMPS for enduring the losses and yet cheer your favourite time with your encouragement. Deccan Chargers will definitely be a team to reckon with, in the next IPL Season!

Yours,
E.Venkatram Reddy

Message from COO on the “Sting Operation”

"In connection with the reports in the press about a certain 'sting operation', which has apparently referred to the involvement of a few players in the domestic league matches, who are currently playing in the 2012 Season of the IPL, one of which is engaged by the Deccan Chargers Team, the BCCI has issued a directive to the concerned Franchisees to suspend all such players whose names have featured in this 'sting operation'. Accordingly, in terms of this directive from the BCCI, we have suspended Mr. T. P. Sudhindra from playing any more matches in the 2012 Season of the IPL pending an inquiry to be undertaken by the BCCI in terms of its constitution, in this regard."

Message from COO

My dear Chargers fans,Deccan Chargers is experiencing disappointing moments having lost one winning match after the other this IPL season, which is just unfortunate. We are therefore going through a rough phase as a team, but we are proud of our team which has been giving a good fight and all the matches have been exhilarating.
Deccan Chargers understands the pain and anguish of its fans and supporters and also is very touched by your encouragement.
Today we have our first of the four home matches in Hyderabad against Kings XI Punjab at 8.00 pm. The need is now for us to only think WIN, develop a positive expectancy about future matches regardless of the past events. I request our ever supporting fans to be there at the Uppal stadium and cheer your favourite team.

Thank you once again for your support.

I am proud to be a Charger - Veer Pratap Singh

Hi Chargers fans, I am Veer Pratap Singh, preferred to be called “Veer” and I am proud to be a Charger!
I am happy for the opportunity given to me to play for my team this IPL season. And I am enjoying my bowling spell, wish we could have won more matches.
My heroes in the team are Skipper Sangakkara and Vice Captain White. They are fantastic and give great cricketing tips. We practice hard and also have fun. My best buddy in the team is Ishank Jaggi and other than the team, it is Alok Sharma. I love Chicken rice and relish it. My dream machine would be a Benz. If not Cricket, I love Football. My favourite cricket ground in India where IPL matches are played is Eden Gardens, Kolkata.
My best playing moment in my career was the Delhi vs Bengal Ranji Trophy match 2012. And my best moment in IPL 2012 should definitely be the wicket of Sachin Tendulkar in the MI vs DC match in Mumbai on April 29th, of course we lost a very close match.
I am working very hard on my Yorkers and slower deliveries. My fitness mantra is practicing Yoga and motto in life “Live Life King Size.” I aspire to play for Team India and be the fastest bowler. As of now, I want to be a Hero, bowl really well and win matches for my team, the Deccan Chargers.
I thank all Chargers fans for supporting us through our low phase and request them to come to the Uppal Stadium in Hyderabad for our four home matches and cheer your favourite team, the Deccan Chargers.
And also thanks for the birthday wishes!

Message from COO

Dear friends,
“No human beings can avoid failures and mistakes. But never, never, never give up on your goals!”

Chargers did just that by wrecking the Pune Warriors India in their 7th game in IPL 2012 and registering their first win of the IPL season. I trust there’s going to be no looking back from here on. Chargers will play to the best of their abilities with the regained confidence and excellent team spirit.

Vice Captain Cameron White smacked PWI with his 78 off 46 balls and lead the Chargers to an 18 runs win. Dhawan, Parthiv, Captain Sanga, Duminy and Jaggi contributed well to the total of 177.

Our bowlers scaled up to the occasion and Deccan Chargers is very proud of this youngster Aashish Reddy who displayed immense maturity in his bowling by taking two vital wickets on his IPL debut. And Rusty Theron playing for the first time for Deccan Chargers picked two wickets. Ankit has been bowling really well this season and he along with Gony took a wicket each and restricted the opponents from taking runs. Well done boys!

We are very thankful to our fans for having supported and encouraged us through our winless stint during the previous matches.

We have one home match in Cuttack on May 1st and four home matches in Hyderabad on May 8th, 10th, 18th & 20th. Do come to the stadium and cheer your team.

Deccan Chargers will play with positive expectancy and strive to win all the ensuing matches.

GO CHARGERS!!!

I love playing for Deccan Chargers

I am a huge fan of Dale Steyn. I love playing for Deccan Chargers as each member motivates the other and we are like one big family. My best friend and team mate is Sneha Kishore. I am really enjoying and benefitting from the training we are undergoing with Coach Lehmann and Kawaljeet Sir. I am working hard to improve my pull shots in my batting and also lofted shots. And yokers and slower ones in my bowling.
My favourite cricket ground in India where IPL matches are played is the Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru. If not playing cricket, it is Badminton for me. I just love the game. I am very happy that we had two IPL matches in Vizag.
I aspire to play for my country India. It is my dream and I want to achieve it one day.

I am eagerly looking forward to play this IPL Season

I am eagerly looking forward to play this IPL Season. I feel very special to be with Deccan Chargers. Last season though I did not get a chance to play, the experience of training and travelling with my team mates was enriching. I play for Queensland back home in Australia and my coach there and here is Darren Lehmann. So I am very comfortable training with him. He is just incredible!
Every game in the IPL is important. But four wins by Deccan Chargers in the beginning will help build confidence in the team. Deccan Chargers is a great team with young players who want to win matches.
This season is going to be hectic travelling for matches and we have three home grounds! It is going to be my first visit to Vizag and Cuttack. The weather here is warmer and hotter than in Australia.
I bond well with all the Aussie players; Chipli, Jaggi and Arjun are fun guys, we do hang around. I look forward to playing with Parthiv. In my free time, I am hooked to my playstation. I love watching rugby matches and being on social networking sites like facebook and twitter. I miss home, my family and the beaches of Australia.
My motto in life is to play my best cricket, just do it and relax. Like to take risks and succeed.
I just want to tell our Chargers fans, though we give our 100% to the game, we may at times not achieve our target. It is a sport and to be taken with a sportsmanship spirit. We want you to keep supporting us and trust me we also want to win matches as much as you want us to.

It feels absolutely great to be with the Deccan Chargers

It feels absolutely great to be with the Deccan Chargers, my favourite team. It is even more exciting to have Cuttack as home ground, especially because Deccan Chargers won both the matches played at Barabati Stadium during IPL 2010. I am hoping to get a chance to play this IPL season and give my best to the team and win matches. I have the well wishes of my fans from Odisha. My focus is on my game and performing well for my team.
I am also looking forward to playing in Hyderabad. I have been here before for the domestic tournaments. The fact that I will be sharing the dressing room and playing along with great players like Sangakkara and Dale Steyn is a dream comes true for me.
IPL is the biggest platform to showcase one’s cricketing talents. The opportunity to train with Coach Lehmann is something I was looking forward too. I have heard a lot about his cricketing and coaching abilities. I had a few good training sessions with my team mates. I feel I can improve in all aspects of my game. My team mates in Deccan Chargers are also very encouraging and helpful. So it feels really good. I have played with Ishank Jaggi and Anand Rajan in the domestic tournaments, so it is nice to have them around.
I request all my fans and Deccan Chargers fans to come in large numbers to the stadiums and cheer us. We will definitely win matches and reciprocate their faith in us.

I am very happy to be a team member of Deccan Chargers

I just love visiting Hyderabad. And have a special affiliation for this fabulous cricket ground, the Rajiv Gandhi International Cricket Stadium, more famous locally as the Uppal stadium. I have scored really well here. I specially remember my century in one of the Ranji Trophy matches I played here. My debut first class cricket match was played in this stadium, making it very memorable for me.
Deccan Chargers is the third IPL team I am representing. The first was Chennai Super Kings. I had some good experience playing under Dhoni, but I did not get much opportunity to play and my stint with Kochi Tuskers Kerala was good but what happened to the team was unfortunate.
I am very happy to be a team member of Deccan Chargers. I am sure we will display some great cricket. T20 is a very challenging format of game. In the past I have scored 40s & 50s. Now I want to score really well. My approach to the game is with the sole criteria of winning the game.
I am happy to be training with Coach Lehmann and my team mates. Interestingly, I have played against Darren Lehmann in Test and ODI matches and he was a tough competitor and that is what he expects from the team now.
Deccan Chargers is a young side with enthusiastic and talented players and we will surely cheer our fans. I just want to say, please support us, keep praying for us to do well. We surely want to play to win all games.
I strongly believe in working hard and have good self belief. I lead a very simple life and derive immense joy in spending time with my 10 month old daughter. My other indulgence during my free time is watching movies.

Message from the Coach

A huge welcome to our fans for this year’s IPL ,IPL 5 is going to be the biggest and best by far I’m sure and I would like to thank you for being our loyal fans both old and the new ones that have come on board this year. As DECCAN CHARGERS coach I promise you a entertaining way we play as well some exciting cricket for you to support and watch.

We have lost some players and have gained some new players and I’m sure we wish both sets the very best of luck in the future.

The players we have will all be looking forward to continuing how we finished last year’s IPL with 3 wins on the trot of last year’s Comp and they way we start is most important for not only us but all teams this year.
The schedule is very cramp and we will need to rotate our squad more than in previous year’s as there is at one point 8 games in 16 days so a very tight schedule.

Our players will have to be fit and flexible with where and when we play. But I guarantee you that all players will be ready to go for the Chargers this season.

I welcome all our new players (Abhishek Jhunjhunwala, Ahmed Quadri, Akshath Reddy, Atchuta Rao, Biplab Samantray, Daniel Harris, Parthiv Patel, Sneha Kishore, Tanmay Mishra, Tanmay Srivastava, TP Sudhindra and Veer Pratap Singh) and support staff (Trevor Penney and Patricia Jenkins) as well as a big thank you again to the Owners for their continued support .

Message from the COO’s desk

Auction… Selections… Reactions… have been the flavors of the month that has kept us busy on our toes.
We are pleased to introduce our new Chargers, Parthiv Patel, Darren Bravo, Daniel Harris, Tanmay Mishra, Tanmay Srivastav, Akshath Reddy, Biplab Samanthray and TP Sudhindra. Your dynamic team will surely show wonders this IPL season, so keep cheering dear fans!

I am delighted to share with you the fabulous performance of Chargers on the domestic and international circuit. The same spirit of scoring and winning, I am sure will be demonstrated during the IPL matches.

Daniel Christian’s quick fire runs lead Australia to a comfortable win against India in the CB Series at Brisbane, Australia.

Our local lads have been on a rampage! Akshath Reddy, the swashbuckling right handed batsman scored a fast unbeaten century in the first game of the Inter State One day League played at Bangalore. His splendid innings of 110* from 104 deliveries included 13 boundaries which took the game away from Kerala.

Ravi Teja’s cracking 119* and Ashish Reddy’s 66* of 27 balls helped Hyderabad achieve its 3rd consecutive win in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Goa. Ashish Reddy also picked precious wickets, 5/68 in his quota of 10 overs. Ashish Reddy and Ravi Teja, once again were instrumental in Hyderabad’s victory over Andhra by 6 wickets in the second game of the South Zone Vijay Hazare One day Trophy at Bangalore. Ashish claimed 2 wickets for 33 runs from his spell of 7 overs and Ravi laid the foundation by top scoring 42 of 55 balls which included 7 boundaries.

Ravi Teja once again showed his batting prowess by scoring a brilliant 110 of 116 with 13 boundaries. Ashish Reddy scored 29 of 22 and also picked a wicket in the Vijay Hazare Trophy against Karnataka played in Bangalore. Unfortunately Hyderabad lost to Karnataka.

Our dashing new Charger, TP Sudhindra and Ankit Sharma delivered one of the finest bowling spell against Uttar Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy. Bowlers Sudhindra, Ankit Sharma and Anand Rajan, representing Madhya Pradesh in the Vijay Hazare Trophy maintained a disciplined line and length to dismiss the Uttar Pradesh team for a low score of 105 in 39.5 overs.

Another dependable new Charger, Biplab Samantray’s 78 of 83 balls lead to Odisha’s convincing win over Tripura in the Vijay Hazare Trophy played at Kolkata.

Charger Ishank Jaggi, confidently scored a match winning 63 to help his team Jharkand beat Tripura in the Vijay Hazare Trophy played at Kolkata. Jaggi went on to hammer an unbeaten 129* of 144 balls against Bengal in the match played at Kolkata.

Let me once again assure you that your team is in the worthy hands of our active support force lead by Darren Lehmann, Head Coach and Kawaljeet Singh, Asst Coach. They are joined by our new fielding coach Trevor Penney. I extend a warm welcome to Trevor and trust his expertise will boost your team’s fielding skills, and Chargers winning matches should be the flavor of IPL 2012.

Go Chargers Go!!!

Yours
E.Venkatram Reddy

Ishanth too has been performing well in the same Test series. I am very proud of our team players. One of our Chargers fans, Jaffar Hussain, very aptly left a comment on the Deccan Chargers Facebook Page...

Management Speaks

Greetings from Deccan Chargers, your IPL team from Hyderabad! I take immense pleasure to update Chargers fans on your team and some of its players. Deccan Chargers is proud that the international and domestic players have been performing par excellence in the various cricketing tournaments round the globe playing for their respective countries, counties, clubs, etc.
Deccan Chargers Skipper Kumar Sangakkara, the suave, intense, very balanced and ruthless cricketer gentleman is a great motivator and inspires his team to succeed. Sanga, the wicket-keeper batsman lets his performance speak. He was awarded the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year 2011 and also won the ICC People's Choice Award. He played his 100th Test Match, Sri Lanka vs Australia in Sri Lanka, Sep 16 – 20, 2011 and scored 79 runs. Kumar Sangakkara delivered an exceptional speech in his prestigious 2011 MCC Spirit of Cricket Cowdrey Lecture, touching on the history, culture and opportunities for Sri Lankan cricket.
Rusty Theron gave South Africa a fitting victory with his 31 not out and a winning six in the last ball on Oct 16th, 2011 in the second T20 International against Australia at the Wanderers Stadium.
A gusty half-century by JP Duminy, took South Africa to 146 for seven in their allotted 20 overs against Australia in their first T20 match at Cape Town on October 13th, 2011.
Dale Steyn bowled high-quality out swingers during the recent CLT20 2011 for his team Cape Cobras. Daniel Christian, the all rounder was also seen in action playing for his team, South Australia and JP Duminy, the classy batsman for his team, the Cape Cobras at the CLT20 2011.
We were happy to have the superb, star batsman Kevin Pietersen in Hyderabad, to play for his side England in the ODI India vs. England on Oct 14th, 2011. KP has the record of reaching 1000 ODI runs in just 21 matches and he has scored more runs in his first 25 Test matches than anyone else, except for the legendary Don Bradman. His 175 runs in the Oval Test against India in August 2011 and his 202 at Lord’s Test against India in July 2011 speak volumes of his batting abilities.
Our Indian stars, Amit Mishra, Ishant Sharma, Pragyan Ojha and Shikhar Dhawan were selected to join Team India in the ODIs and Tests at West Indies and England immediately after their stint with the Deccan Chargers during IPL 2011.
Amit was consistent in taking wickets for Team India and showed his batting skills by scoring 43 & 84 runs during the Oval Test Innings in August 2011.
It is a joy to see Ishant Sharma hungry for wickets. In the last 13 months he has taken 57 of his 123 wickets. His 100th wicket in his 32nd Test, West Indies v India, 2nd Test, Bridgetown on the 3rd day is indeed memorable. He said in an interview following this achievement "I learnt during this IPL that jo aap ho aapko vahi karna hai (you should stick to your strengths). I learnt how to recover from tiredness. You travel a lot during the IPL and I learnt more about my body and the importance of training."
Ishant’s bowling attack during the Test series in England, especially the five overs for four runs and three wickets before lunch in the 1st Test at Lords on the 4th day is up there among the best spells of fast bowling in recent years followed by figures of 19-5-64-1 on the 2nd day of the 4th Test at Oval was a delight to watch.
Another power player from our team, Shikhar Dhawan who talks with his bat, was named Captain of the Emerging Players Tournament immediately after the IPL 2011. The squad includes a number of players on the fringes of the India team, who have impressed through the domestic season and in the IPL. The tournament was played in Australia in the month of August 2011.
In the recently held Rajasthan v Rest of India, Irani Cup 2011-12, Jaipur, 1st day, Dhawan scored 177 off 165 balls, an innings that contained 32 fours and one six followed by another fabulous century off 119 deliveries, in the second session. Rest of India held the Irani Cup with a massive first-innings lead and then, instead of enforcing the follow-on, chose to bat again and thrash Rajasthan further with Shikhar Dhawan scoring 155 on the 4th day. He was named the Player-of-the-Match. Way to go Shikhar!

Our local boy Pragyan Ojha who came into the limelight with his performance as a Charger in the inaugural edition of IPL, was selected to represent Team India. And Pragyan is one of the best spin bowlers India has produced. In the Rajasthan v Rest of India, Irani Cup 2011-12, Jaipur Pragyan was the highest wicket taker with 9 wickets for his team Rest of India. He also played brilliantly for his County team Surrey in the County Championship Division Two English Domestic Season this September. Ojha took 23 wickets in four Championship matches, with figures of 6 for 8 against Northamptonshire to go alongside 6 for 42 against Derbyshire. I am very happy to see Pragyan perform with utmost dedication and a great desire to win.
I am very proud of our domestic players from Hyderabad, especially Ravi Teja. He is the Captain of the Hyderabad Cricket Association XI. This August 2011, Ravi lead his team to a 128 runs victory by scoring 107 runs in the Buchi Babu Invitational Tournament Group D against Tamil Nadu Cricket Association XI. And also wins against Gujarat Cricket Association XI and Madhya Pradesh Cricket Association XI in the same tournament. Ravi was also the Captain of Hyderabad Ranji Trophy Cricket Team when it played the tournaments last year. He is the Captain of Deccan Chronicle Cricket Club Team and has lead the team to some exciting wins in the HCA League matches held recently.
Our other young guns from Hyderabad Ashish Reddy and Akash Bhandari are showing great promise in the domestic tournaments.
In the presently ongoing Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy (South Zone) Inter-State Twenty20 Cricket Tournament, the power play by Ravi Teja who scored an unbeaten 81 in 55 balls and his partnership of 93 in 57 balls with Arjun Yadav contributing 40 runs for the third wicket and Pragyan Ojha picking two crucial wickets ensured Hyderabad its first win against Andhra. And Bharath Chipli’s 38 not out took his team Karnataka to an 8 wicket (with 19 balls remaining) victory over Tamil Nadu.
I am excited that Deccan Chargers has provided a wonderful platform to these young, talented and upcoming cricketers and trust they play for Team India soon.

Yours,
E.Venkatram Reddy

Update from the Coach

Fellow Chargers ,

As the competition is getting into full stride ,I thought it would be appropriate to give you an update for our fans and followers throughout India and the world on your side.

Whilst some of the results have not gone our way, we have been playing consistent cricket and as the boys are now knowing our game plan I’m expecting is to start hitting top gear over the next couple of matches. The new squad has been excellent to work with and are the most enjoyable and professional guys I’ve had for a long time.

They all want to excel for the Chargers and have a very good work ethic while still enjoying everything that India and this competition has to offer.

We really appreciate the support that you gives us at the ground and on the website as well as all the good wishes all the time.

This team is starting to gel and I’m confident that we will play the brand of cricket that you all will enjoy and love supporting us. Like most franchises the new team takes a while to gel but with our excellent commitment to the way we play on and off the field this has been a smooth transition for our new group.

On a lighter side I thought I would give you a insight into whom are the funny players in our side, the guys that make everyone laugh and keep the good humor up on a long tournament.

Amit Mishra is always keeping us on our toes and has become the guy that relieves the tension with a light hearted remark. Sunny Sohal is the same and we are very happy to have him as we are with all our players.

As for the overseas Lynn, Lumb and Theron whilst they haven’t played yet have been very good around the group.

I might add that JP Duminy and Theron are the worst singers I have witnessed as I am no good myself but we had a karaoke night the other night and they love their music although they may need some singing lessons.

Here’s to a good game V Mumbai tomorrow and although it is Sachin’s birthday I wish for a Deccan win.

Thanks again for the support speak soon to all .

GO CHARGERS !!!!!!

Cheers Coach
We Are All In This Together

As Captain of the Deccan Chargers, the new IPL Champions, can I express my sincere thanks and gratitude to all our loyal fans for their support.

This support, not just in this year’s successful tournament, but also in the tough 2008 series, is what makes playing in a team sport so satisfying. One of the first things I said to our team at the start of the IPL was, “ we are all in this together”. Our players, support staff , owners and everyone in the Franchise stayed true to that statement right the way through. So, my message to you, the fantastic fans is, thank you… you were all in this together with us!

Hope to see you in Hyderabad soon.

Go Chargers!

Welcome to the fans and sponsors of Deccan Chargers to the second IPL season.

Before I start, I take this opportunity to thank the new Chairman and his Board, as well as the owners and staff of Deccan Chargers for their support this year and congratulate them on their forward thinking and drive to make this team the best as can be.

As coach of the Deccan Chargers, I promise a side that will be fitter, stronger, smarter and more skilled this year. We will be working hard as a playing group and coaching staff to make you all proud of our performances. Our style of play will be entertaining, with explosive batting, but also a new found drive to excellence in fielding. Our bowling with the recruits we have, will have more strike power and also give the new captain Adam Gilchrist plenty of variation to work with in this year’s IPL.

I must take this opportunity to welcome to the Deccan Chargers our new players this year. Fidel Edwards and Dwayne Smith from the West Indies bring flair and pace to our team and I am looking forward to their contribution this year and the next. Ryan Harris from Australia, a fast bowler who can field like a panther or should I say rampaging bull, and hit the ball as well. Watch out for him.

To a few local players that have come on board - T. Suman, A. Kumar, M. Bisla, J. Singh and H. Singh - I'm sure by the end of the season you as fans will know them well. They each bring there own skill set to us to improve the overall balance of our team.

I also would like to congratulate Adam Gilchrist on his appointment as captain for this year and with his knowledge of the game and the explosive way he plays, I'm sure all players are looking forward to working with him. Add to this the likes of our stars in the Indian team - Rohit Sharma, R.P. Singh, V.V.S. Laxman and P. Ojha and our overseas players - Herschelle Gibbs who needs no introduction, Scott Styris New Zealand, Andrew Symonds from Australia, C. Silva, C. Vaas and N. Zoysa all from Sri Lanka - I'm sure they will excite you throughout the tournament. These player and the rest of the Deccan Chargers playing group will be playing for all of you and we are looking forward to your support this year.

The players will be on hand to give autographs and have photo sessions where ever possible. They are all very fine young men, so please don't hesitate to come up and say hello. Let them know that you are a Deccan Chargers fan /Sponsor and I'm sure you will get a good response.

We also have some new coaches on board and they are experienced and passionate about the team. Mike Young comes to us with a wealth of experience from Australia and he will be in charge of the fielding and team dynamics. You will love him and he will add value to our side and I guarantee you that our fielding will be one of the best in the IPL. Steve Smith is our fitness trainer and the boys will be working hard together to ensure we leave no stone unturned in our goal of becoming the fittest as well. Add to this our Physio from last year Sean Slattery and his new staff member Ashleigh Joyce to ensure that our players have the benefits of the latest and best medical practices.

This year we have a camp for players to fine tune everything we are about and team plans running from the 31st of March until the first game of the season. Look for an exciting brand coming your way this year - new colours, new team members mixed in with the guys we have from last year and we are on the charge.

Please enjoy the year and come with all of us on the charge. We are up and running and excited about this year as I'm sure you all are.

Sit back, enjoy the games and remember - The Bull is on the Charge.

Here's to an exciting and great IPL Season 2.

All the best

Darren Lehmann.
I'm Excited!

Hi Everyone and welcome to the new look Deccan Chargers web-site.

As the new season is almost upon us, it is with great excitement and anticipation that I write a short message to you all.
There has been some change at the franchise since the completion of the inaugural IPL season, with the most obvious being the exciting new colours and re-vamped Chargers logo.

This change alone signifies a new beginning for the franchise after a difficult time last year and everyone involved is fired up to do their best in the new season.

One thing we don’t want to change from the first season is the amazing support we received from our wonderful collection of fans and supporters.

I believe the true meaning of the term ‘supporter’ is to continue to maintain faith in a team through highs and lows, and given the manner with which our fans stayed with us last year, we all look forward to sharing in better times in the future and truly appreciate the way in which you all have stuck with us.
Part of our focus and planning for this season will be to combine together as a group and not individuals, as we perhaps were guilty of last season.

The squad has had a few additions which our new coach, Darren Lehmann has outlined in his message on this site and I’ve utmost faith in his ability to gel the group together and have us all moving in the one direction.

Finally, to have been asked to captain the Deccan Chargers for this coming season, is a tremendous thrill and honour. I look forward to working closely with Vice-Captain Rohit Sharma and all the playing staff and support staff. There is also great experience in our squad that I will look to incorporate as we build a unit that will represent the city of Hyderabad and the State of Andhra Pradesh with pride and passion.

Thanks again to our loyal supporters, I look forward to catching up very soon and so too thanks to all our sponsors for their continued support of our team.

Best wishes
Gilly
Adam Gilchrist
